Hi there! We have been getting tons of recent queries about why are we having EPS beads (Expanded Polystyrene Beads) in our bean bags instead of the rumoured to be much better EPP (Expanded Polypropylene Beads) in our quality bean bags? Well, we have the answers!
It is true that EPP last a longer time as compared to EPS. However, there are a couple of reasons why we at Bean Bag Mart do not believe in using EPP.
Being the pioneers in the Bean Bags industry in Singapore, (we have been around for more than 20 years!) we always strive to bring the best comfort and value for our clients.
Firstly, EPP beads are much denser as compared to EPS beads. As a result? It makes the bean bag a good 30 to 40% heavier at the same volume. We believe that a Bean Bag is supposed to be lightweight and easy to move around!
Secondly, it is definitely not true that EPS beads has a strong chemical smell. The smell only occurs after the Polystyrene beads are being heat blasted to its expanded size. After aging and airing, the EPS beads are odourless.
Thirdly, as EPP beads are denser, it's much harder to 'flow' within the bean bag and thus making the bean bag too firm and uncomfortable! You should be able to sink into the bean bag with the bag moulding your body shape. Why get a firm bean bag?! Bean bags are supposed to be able to give you proper support of your back when you lie into it and not be fixed shape that does not mould to your body.
Fourthly, EPS beads are cheaper to replace and although it does not last a longer time than EPP, the cheaper costs makes up for the replacement!
Last but not least, we have 2 exact same models of bean bags here in our showroom each filled with EPS and EPP. Drop by and test it out to see the difference! You will be amazed!
