Lots of debate have been going on that micro beads are much softer and much more comfortable as compared to the normal EPS beads aka styrofoam beads. So why are we at Bean Bag Mart not using them?
So what exactly are microbeads?
Google Answer :
There are campaigns to remove microbeads from the above mentioned products as due to it's size, they often get washed away in drains and sinks and thus unable to go through the normal recycling process. Resulting in huge pollution situations all over America.
We understand that some consumers would prefer micro-beads. They do feel soft and allows you to sink into them more. However, the reason why we do not recommend them is that they are much heavier as compared to the expanded polystyrene beads (EPS) that we use. Micro-beads are usually and more commonly found in small items like head-rest, neck-rest and toys or cosmetics of course. They are not really suitable nor recommended for large furnitures though. We believe that one of the major advantage of having a bean bag is due to its high versatility and also it's light weight nature so that you can shift it anywhere you like!
In addition, micro-beads only works well with Lycra material as it stretches. This is to allow you to sink in and let the beads mould to your bodyshape. If a non-stretchable fabric like cotton, corduroy, suede etc, is used, it will result in the bean bag becoming too firm and thus unable to mould to your body shape. We have done lots of experiments using lycra fabric and we found out that they do not last long. As the material stretches more over time whenever you sit or laze in it, the lifespan of a Lycra bean bag is very short. Last but not least, when we really ‘jump’ onto the Lycra bean bag, we might sink in too much and even hit rock bottom! Safe and comfy for adults, not so for the excited kids jumping on it.
We do have microbeads Bean Bags in Lycra material if you insist. Let us know and we'll let you try!
